Snowdrops for lunch, mmmm!

To celebrate the arrival of snowdrops, one of the first signs that spring has sprung, Falkland centre for stewardship has arranged a series of workshops centred on snowdrops. Our part: to make snowdrops out of bread dough which is not an ideal modelling medium - it's alive, and does its own thing, either blowing up to three times the width, or uncurling, or shrinking back like a snail pulling its horns in, or expanding in the oven to merge with its neighbours.

That didn't stop 4 teams of young bakers from making (and eating) around 30 trays of snowdrop bread sticks and about 16 trays of apple & cinnamon muffins or lemon muffins last weekend.
Imagination! No point in me trying, King Canute style, to hold it back so as well as snowdrops we had snails, twists, rolls and a house which between going into the oven and coming out again had metamorphosed into Bart Simpson's head! Brilliant.
Everyone did well, real concentration and energetic kneading - a bunch of great bakers.
p.s. the sticks and muffins tasted good too.
